Wouter Lenaerts was born in Peer, Belgium in 1981.

He studied the piano, organ, saxophone and harmony at the ‘Noord-Limburgs Instituut voor Kunstonderwijs’ in Neerpelt.

In 1999 he became a laureate of the ‘Axion Classics’ competition of Dexia.

Wouter continued at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels and became ‘Master of Music’ on two occasions; for piano with Boyan Vodenitcharov and harmony, counterpoint and fugue in the class of Rafaël D’Haene, where he received the prize ‘Lunssens’ for his extraordinary standard for harmony.

Wouter has participated in master classes with such renowned pianists as Kum Sing Lee, Sontraud Speidel, Pilar Valero en André De Groote.

He now studies wind band conducting with Norbert Nozy, symphonic conducting with Silveer Van Den Broeck and composition with Rafaël D’Haene.

Since 2004 he has been teaching theory of music at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

As a composer he has written many pieces for piano, chamber music, such as saxophone quartets, a harp quartet and pieces for violin and piano.

His compositions for symphonic wind band and fanfare have been recorded and published by ‘Beriato Music’ and are played by many orchestras in Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Austria, Switzerland and Japan.

The piece ‘Devil’s Island’ for symphonic wind band was awarded the ‘First Prize in unanimity’ at the Composition competition of the ‘European Music Festival for Youngsters’ in Neerpelt. It became the obligatory piece in the highest level for the ‘European Music Festival’ for orchestras in May 2005.

His pieces ‘Devil’s Island’, ‘The Shadow of Golgotha’ and ‘Niflheim’ are marked as obligatory pieces in the Dutch index of wind music.
